Your Portal To The Hudson Valley

Our mission is to help stimulate the local economy by promoting and introducing the faces behind independently owned businesses and organizations. As a community, we support each other by shopping locally and by experiencing all that this area has to offer. VISITvortex is a celebration of each season and a visual display of the Catskills and Hudson Valley’s treasures in print, online, and through video.

  • A winter black out of some kind is almost inevitable—whether just for a few minutes or, like last year, for days on end. Cars may slide into electric poles, heavy ice storms can pull down wires, and deep snowstorms can cripple the electrical system.more

  • -- Late Night Update : European Model -- One of the most anticipated computer model runs in history is now in the books. The European model has a few minor changes: - Storm is projected to be stronger than previous run - Storm is projected to stall out further east than previous run - European snowfall projection for western parts of HV slightly less What does this mean? Not a whole lot. The change in snowfall projection for the Hudson Valley is not dramatic... but it pulls the back edge of the snow east by about 25 miles. It pulls the axis of heaviest snow from directly over the HV... to be centered over Putnam & Westchester counties, and western CT. Those hoping for a major snowstorm... will find this trend troubling. While the HV would still see 12 to 24 inches (plus)... the latest European model just eliminated any margin for error. Any further shift to the east would result in major changes to the snowfall totals. Those hoping for less snow... this is a welcome sign, but has little meaning other than to give hope that the other models have the right solution. We'll have updates thru the day on Monday, as well as a finalized forecast during the day. Have a great night! -Bill-more
