The Appalachian Trail passes through Dover acquainting nature lovers and painters with a sanctuary seizing the pictorial magnificence of rivers, fields, farms and country life. With two centuries of history and heritage, this pastoral landscape engenders a feeling of being transported into the many artistic renderings of the area. One of Dover's marvels is the "Stone Church", a geological formation of metaphoric rock likened to a cathedral stained glass window. Dover's renowned flawless white marble was used for government structures in New York City and Washington, DC, along with prominent monuments such as the Washington Arch in Greenwich Village.
