Tango meets Swing at Unison Arts Center on Saturday, September 6th at 7:30. The amazing Nina Jirka will lead a short demonstration & dance lesson, followed by tango and swing dancing, with musical accompaniment by the Bernstein Bard Quartet.
Nina Jirka studied dance at the legendary Russian Dance Academy in Moscow. She danced with the Moscow Festival Ballet, Perm Opera, Kremlin Ballet and Stars of Bolshoi. In 2006, she and Ellen Crystal founded Tango of New Paltz. During her demonstration, Nina will also talk about the history of tango.
The Bernstein Bard Quartet is Steve Bernstein on mandolin, Mark Bernstein on guitar, Robert Bard on upright bass and Brian Melick on percussion. These longtime friends of Unison have incorporated tango and swing into their repertoire, creating a compelling dance set that is suitable for any dancer, regardless of their background.
Tickets are $20 in advance ($15 for Unison members) and $25 at the door ($20 for members). Students are half price with a valid ID.
Come to dance, come to listen, come to have fun.
